The moment I got to know that we are going to fly long.. (all the way to the other side of the World), I made up my mind that I had to do something to keep my daughter busy not only through the flight but also through the road trips.
In that country, car seats are a must! And she has no idea how to sit still..
With "less than a week" to fly AND a 20-22hr flight, you cannot be calm! I wasn't until I made these "busy or quiet bags" as they are called.
I'm also practical, that there will be tv/visual time and tantrums and maybe less sleep and more tantrums.. But acceptance is the first step towards a better vacation (and life ofcourse)
Its not so much about what "we need" (thats for grown ups), its what the baby needs.
My daughter is going to be TWO soon, but there's so much that has changed since we flew to Europe, 6months ago!
She was little, still on my feed and our parents were there too to help.
Now we will be alone..so there has to be lots and lots of planning and ample things for her to do on the flight, on the road..everywhere!
Thankfully, we have family with kids there (I'm sure you know what that means) but one cannot be too ready with a kid!
DO more, do more is my mantra right now!
Here's what all I made:
1. Straw and string to insert
2. Different foam shapes and matching pipe-cleaner colors to insert
3. Playdough
4. Colors and coloring books
5. Magnetic placemat with magnetic puzzle and alphabets
6. Ice-cream sticks (with velcro) that can be stacked on built up!
7. Balloons (not blown) - there are so many games that can played with this
8. Books to read
9. STICKERS (you can never have less of these!!!)
As and when I get time, will update the links on howto make these busy bags!
PLUS! They didnt cost me much!!! In less than 200Rs each!

The other list:
Apart from all the hustle and bustle, here's a list of things which you probably know are required!
1. Weather appropriate clothes, shoes and accessories
2. Medicial kit
3. Documents (including child's birth certificate - I've heard it being required)
4. Neck pillow
5. Warm blanket
6. Lots of snacks for the toddler (most important! And keeps them less grumpy!!)
Here's the snack list (INDIAN) that my daughter loves and maybe yours would too:
1. Namak Paare or/and Mathari
2. Besan Ladoo or/and boondi ladoo
3. Dry fruits
4. Makhane (lightly roasted in ghee and salt)
6. Rice puffs/wheat puffs
7. Chakari (rice chips)
8. Soya chips (salted)
9. Khajoor
(if you think there can be something else, do add here!) Otherwise I think, if her tummy is full "before" the flight starts, its best for everyone (including other passengers)
Humor is getting the best of me! Atleast the temper is a little off because of this..
Lets see how all this planning goes.. A lot of hard work has gone into this..I'm hoping it goes as smooth as it is in my head! Rest only time will tell..
Wish u all the best for your vacation... Have fun :)
