Here's the WHY:
1. A healthy body. (isn't it obvious!) plus you are instilling good and positive ideas from the very beginning.
2. It helps everyone (including) the children to be more mindful of their body and emotions and hence "emotionally strong" - there will be another post on this one
3. In India, they say Yoga helps you to have a healthy body, mind and soul. Ofcourse the "soul" part of it is very very debatable.
4. Its an activity which will help you bond with your toddler plus its fun!
5. For sensory strength, in their different body parts like fingers and their posture. This strength is vital for later stages in life, for example to be able to hold a pencil to write.
Here's how it started for us:
While we were at the airport, ready to board the flight to our vacation spot, my daughter drew the attention of some foreign nationals, who were visiting India for a "yoga" session in Rishikesh!

Here's how it started for us:
While we were at the airport, ready to board the flight to our vacation spot, my daughter drew the attention of some foreign nationals, who were visiting India for a "yoga" session in Rishikesh!
It was interesting to note that one of them taught yoga to preschoolers and toddlers.
Not only that, she managed to teach my daughter a few poses too!
And I managed to take a few pictures of her while she did it! Phew..it was worth the effort!
Here you can see, she's doing the "downward dog pose", the "tree pose" and the "butterfly pose".
I like their english names too :) As they are all related to animals and nature and she understands their names very well too..
The importance of "yoga" is something well understood by Indians, although we do not practice it as much as people from other countries. But the fact that I know how to, and that my daughter's interest, made me realise that I can bank upon this opportunity and practice with her everyday!
So, we do a short 10-15min jumping, playing and doing all the poses she can manage in the morning. Its play for her, but I don't mind as long as she is doing it.
Applaud is what is keeping her going and with time I will add the other knowledge aspect.
If you wanna try doing it with your kids, try making a group to inspire them. Or do it yourself, they will anyways copy what we do!
Have fun!
